InvestorySpot Stock Ticker

Description

InvestorySpot Stock Ticker displays live stock prices in a scrolling ticker bar or table format. It supports multiple data providers (Yahoo Finance, Alpha Vantage, Finnhub) with automatic fallback if one provider fails.

Yahoo Finance is used as the primary provider and requires no API key. Alpha Vantage and Finnhub keys can be optionally configured for fallback.

External Services

This plugin connects to one or more external APIs to retrieve real-time stock market data. Data is fetched whenever the shortcode is rendered or when the frontend auto-refreshes (default every 300 seconds). The stock symbols configured by the site administrator are sent to the active provider’s API. No personal data of site visitors is sent.

Yahoo Finance

• Service: Yahoo Finance API (query1.finance.yahoo.com). This is an unofficial integration using Yahoo’s public chart endpoint.
• Data sent: Stock symbols (e.g., AAPL, GOOGL) are sent to Yahoo Finance to retrieve current price, change, and volume data.
• When: On every stock data fetch — page load and each auto-refresh cycle.

Alpha Vantage

• Service: Alpha Vantage API (www.alphavantage.co). Provides stock quote data.
• Data sent: Stock symbols and the site’s API key are sent to Alpha Vantage.
• When: When Yahoo Finance fails and Alpha Vantage is configured as a fallback provider.

Finnhub

• Service: Finnhub API (finnhub.io). Provides stock quote data.
• Data sent: Stock symbols and the site’s API key are sent to Finnhub.
• When: When Yahoo Finance and Alpha Vantage both fail and Finnhub is configured.

All attributes:
* symbols – Comma-separated stock symbols (supports crypto e.g. BTC-USD, ETH-USD)
* display – “ticker” (scrolling) or “table”
* color_up – Hex color for positive changes
* color_down – Hex color for negative changes
* refresh – Cache duration in seconds
* decimals – Decimal places for prices (0-8, default 2)
